Peanut to Chunky Monkey

Our little girl had her first pediatrics appointment today. A little bit of back story before I tell you about it.

The nurses and lactation consultants at Kaiser urged us to stay 2 days in the hospital because Kendall wasn't eating as well as they would have liked. All she wanted to do was sleep and she had to have a vacuum tube shoved down her throat a few times after delivery (which makes the babies not want to suck sometimes), so they just wanted to be sure she was getting enough nutrition before we left. The day after we were discharged we had our follow up appointment with the lactation nurse and her weight was down to 6lbs 7oz - just .5% away from the 10% "scary" weight loss point. I fed her while we were at the doctors and they weighed her again, which proved she was eating well since she gained 3oz. They wanted to see us the next day anyways, just to be safe, and she weighed in at 6lbs 12oz! So we got the ok to stop trying to wake her up every 2-3 hours and just let her be.

Today Kendall weighed in at 7lbs 10.5oz!!! I knew she was eating like a champ but wow! She is really filling out in her face and I'm even starting to see her little stick legs and arms getting a little roll-y. I can't wait for chubby legs!!! She is still sleeping in 4 hour chunks for the most part and starting to stay awake a lot longer in between feedings. We are very lucky parents thus far!

Monday I took Kendall to Auntie Karen's house and we went for a nice long walk to downtown Campbell for some ice cream. She slept most of the walk but smiled the whole time :)
So relaxed!
Liam could not wait to meet Kendall. He even washed and sanitized his hands twice before holding her. He kept saying "I love baby Kendall" which was heart melting for sure.
She really likes sleeping with her arms behind her head
Adorable outfit from cousin Heather!
Baby Alex (2.5 weeks older) and Kendall's first meeting. Cary's 30th Birthday BBQ was Sunday so we headed over mid afternoon. It was a great opportunity for us to get out of the house and have some adult time and Kendall got to meet more of her adoring fans. Who says your life stops when you have kids? ;)

A Bit of a Birth Story

Since I loved reading Cindy's post about her adorable Sofia's birth, I figured I would write a little bit about Kendall's arrival to this world.

I had been experiencing braxton hicks for a few weeks but nothing major. Then Saturday morning I woke up to something a little more painful and longer lasting. These continued very randomly throughout the morning, but it wasn't anything major so I went about my day. Victoria and I walked downtown and got a mani/pedi, Alicia and Ben came over for dinner and we walked back downtown to get food and frozen yogurt, we came home and played some Kinect... I tried to get some sleep since I was hoping it could be the last time for a while but the contractions started coming on stronger. I let Mike get some sleep while I walked laps in our living room and watched a movie. Around 2am I started to time my contractions and made my first call to labor and delivery. I knew they weren't strong enough, even though they were almost 3 minutes apart, but I just wanted reassurance. Around 3:30 Mike woke up and came down to keep me company and help me time. By 4:00 I decided the contractions were strong enough that we should head to the hospital, now closer to two minutes than three.

I was only 3.5 cm dilated when we got to the hospital but my contractions kept on coming so we alerted the folks. I spent the next few hours walking laps in the halls and getting in and out of the shower. I was progressing along nicely, according the the nurses, even though I felt like time had stopped. I almost broke down a few times and asked for drugs. I was SO tired. Having contractions that close together for so long gave me no time to rest. Mike was amazing helping me through the pain. I couldn't stop the urge to push around 1:45 so they got me in bed and even though I was still only at 9cm they decided it was time to let me push. I ended up having to get the IV because the baby's heart rate was high from all my hot showers and then her heart rate actually started to drop with my contractions. Without knowing what was going on the full team of doctors was in the room and I was pushing her out with some assistants from the midwife. They were concerned the cord was wrapped around her neck or chest so they wanted me to get the baby out as soon as possible. After 22 minutes of intense pushing, out came baby Kendall - totally perfect and amazing. I had to ask what she was! Mike was so caught up in the moment that he didn't even remember we didn't know the sex. They held her up for Mike to see and after a few seconds of staring and processing he yelled, "it's a girl!!" We enjoyed some alone time with Kendall before letting her fan's into see her.

It's amazing how quickly the day flew by, even though I didn't feel that way during my contractions. Every single nurse at Kaiser was amazing so our two day stay in the hospital was actually really nice. I loved sharing this experience with my incredible husband, who went from "I'm not looking" to watching every little thing :) All in all I think I had a pretty wonderful delivery!

1 week old ALREADY!!

Our sweet little baby girl has somehow already turned a week old. How does time go by so quickly? We have been loving every second with her. I could watch baby TV all day (that's what my friend Cary calls it when you just sit and stare at a baby). Kendall is feeding like a champ now and the past two nights she has slept 2 four hour chunks in her crib with only about an hour awake in-between. Mommy is very thankful for the 8 hours of sleep she has been getting :) We've been starting to really pick up on her habits which has been nice for getting out of the house. I know it's only the beginning of week two, but so far this little girl is an angel!
Getting ready to go out for our first walk
Look! Her eyes are open (something only really Mike and I have seen lol)

The beginning of a life long friendship! Kendall and Evan (4 months)
SO Happy!
She still loves those fingers
Of course the second I grabbed my camera she balled up. She was stiff as a board with both legs out!

Kendall Jaime is here!!!

My goal for the day/night was to post a blog and I'm cutting in close! I'll be sure to jump on later and post more but I wanted to get some pictures up for all you adoring fans :) They are in backwards order because our laptop is being weird and won't let me cut and paste... grrrr, so go to the bottom of the post and work your way up.

Kendall Jaime Rohrbach was born Sunday, June 19th (Father's Day!!) at 2:21pm. She was 20.5 inches long and 7 pounds 2 oz. She is amazingly perfect and so far such a good baby girl. We got back home on Tuesday late morning and have settled in nicely. I can just stare at her all day long!! We are for sure in love :)

Leaving for the hospital at 4:20ish am

Maternity Photos

My friend Carmen offered to take some maternity pictures of me and I jumped at the chance. We cut it pretty close doing it at 38 weeks but it was totally worth it! I'm really really happy with the way they turned out :)

Just a quick update before I put the pictures up... I had a doctors appointment yesterday to check my progress. Last week I was 1cm and 30% effaced and yesterday I was at 2cm (she didn't actually tell me the effacement). I was slightly disappointed I wasn't a little further along but she seemed very happy with my progress. I've been having braxton hicks for weeks but as of this morning I've actually been having more "meaningful" contractions. Still very random and not very strong...yet. We would LOVE a Father's Day baby so send baby vibes our way!!
