35 Weeks - Home Stretch!

How Many Weeks? 35 weeks

Size of Baby?   Baby is as big as a pineapple or a honeydew melon. Baby measures about 18.2 inches from head to heel. From here on out, he or she won't get much longer, but will keep plumping up. Your 35-week fetus now weighs about 5.3 pounds, and will put on a pound or more of baby fat before you meet him or her.

Symptoms?  More and more braxton hicks contractions. Most always at night after plopping down for the day but randomly in the middle of the day.  I guess my body is just gearing up now!  I also feel like the baby is beginning to drop. Words I said many times with my own kids but they never actually did... but this time feels different. Much more lower pressure and when I buckle my seatbelt I use to have a flat area for it to sit still and now that part is not so flat...

Sleep?  Still mostly great.  I've had a cold so that has hindered some of my great sleep nights, but overall no complaints.

Miss Anything?  Sushi. I'm ready for you raw fish!!!

Movement? Baby is still incredibly active and really likes to stick one of it's feet out of my side.  It still prefers my right side and stays basically in the same position it has for months - head down towards my right side, curled around my right side, butt towards the top of my belly on the left, legs fully tucked over it's torso.

Food Cravings? Apparently sushi, although I haven't necessarily been craving it, I just can't wait to have it as an option again.  My actual craving has been ice cream.  I could eat my weight in Phish Food right now!!

Anything making you queasy or sick?  Been pretty nausea free over the last few weeks (knock on wood that sticks).

Recent Doctors Appointment?  Bi-weekly check up last week, which is where we got to see and confirm that it is in fact a foot poking out of my side. Measuring on track and baby looks great.  It's still very shy and wont' give us a profile shot - either tucked down too far or covering it's face with it's hands.  We have a growth ultrasound this week and next week we'll begin having weekly check ups until baby decides to make it's grand entrance.

Best IP moment? The IM's baby shower was so so great!  I got to meet some of her family, who were all so welcoming and lovely, and friends and co-workers.  The best was it wasn't really announced that I was going to be there so IM would introduce me in a group setting then have to come back to me and say to the person entering the party "and that is our baby...". Watching people's reactions from the usual, hi nice to meet you, to the OMG HI!!! was pretty comical. Also IM got to feel her baby move for the first time - priceless!!  I also was able to grab her in time at the check up to feel it's foot poking out but since we pushed on it poor dad didn't get to.  Next time!

Most asked question? Do you think you'll do it again?  My answer is I'm pretty indifferent on that right now.  I think I'm too deep in it to want to jump to answer that one way or another, kind of like when someone asks you 3 minutes after you have a baby if you are going to have another one.  At this exact moment I think if my IP's wanted a sibling journey I would want to do it, but maybe not go through the entire process again.  1. My IP's are so incredible I don't think I will ever be as happy with another match.  2. As I've mentioned before we feel like life has been in limbo for a really really long time and I'm ready to get back to "normal".  That being said, most of the surrogates I've spoken to or read stories from may feel the same way and then the second they give birth and see the IP's faces when they meet their baby they instantly think, I HAVE to do this again!!  So we shall see...

Nesting? Nope. I'm good being a minor lump in the little free time that we do have.

Ethan's 3rd and Harper's 2nd Birthdays

One day, two parties to celebrate two of our favorite little ones!  Since the Van Zant's made the move to Chicago, Heather and Bob had to push up Ethan's birthday party up so we could still celebrate him.  Mike and I did a divide and concur tactic so we could also be present at Harper's 2nd birthday PJ party.  Charlie and I went to Ethan's for a while and Mike and Kendall went to Harper's.  Charlie was the extra lucky one since it meant double cake! We love these munchkins are are so happy we get to see them grow!  Happy birthday Harper and Ethan!

Birthday boy at the park
Sneak attack hugs
Cake for breakfast!!
Then over at the Givens' - a little Charlie and Joss play time
I love that he was holding that board up so she wouldn't pull it down on herself!  Already a protector :)
Cake Time!
I think all parties should be PJ parties!

100th day of School

This yearly tradition is new to me, but apparently schools do a big celebration for their 100th day of school each year.  I didn't get to attend last year so I was in for a huge surprise at how big this day is to the kids when I arrived this year.  Plus, the kids were told they can dress "100" for the 100th day, so I had some fun transforming Kendall into her future self.  The entire upper campus of school paraded through each classroom, getting a tour of the different activities that were hosted throughout, then gathered in the quad to SCREAM count to 100 all together.  Seeing one of the 1st grade teachers up on a table directing them all was hilarious.  Then they set the kids free to roam the classrooms and complete all the fun 100 driven activities that were set up for them.  It only lasted a few hours, but these kids were SO excited about their fun morning. By some miracle the teachers were able to pull them back together for the rest of their normal school day without too much trouble - but not until after a quick recess so they could run off some of the sugar they devoured from a few of the rooms.

Our little old lady!  I'm so happy she let me draw on her forehead lines :)
She was SO into the panty hose!  They fully completed her look (still laughing at them!)
Counting in the Quad!  You can see the teacher on the table cheering on the counting
100 stickers room
100 snacks/create your own trail mix room
Yup, I'm still laughing at the stockings!!
100 fruit loops to make a necklace.

Annual belated Jones/Rohrbach Gift Exchange

Every year I worry we get together for our post-Christmas gift exchange and cousin hang out later and later but thanks to time hop and facebook memories, we seem to be right on par with our past years.  Phew!  As the kids get older it gets more and more difficult for us to get together frequently like we use to when the little ones were, well, little!  So I treasure any chance we actually do get together.  These cousins love each other so much and it warms my heart to see them playing together so well.

Lacey and Brandi were troopers and met us in Davis a few weeks ago.  It wasn't as long as a visit as we would get if I came up to one of their houses, but I still think it was pretty perfect. The kids got to play at a park for a few hours and we ended the trip with some Fro-Yo (perfect timing to load them in the cars full of sugar).  And since the kids are older, and the park was fully enclosed, we actually got some time to talk to each other!  Win!  We already can't wait until our next visit which will hopefully be sooner than later.

Gifts in January!?  Kendall says, yes please!
Walking to fro-yo
I adore these kids!
Us moms were there too!
Charlie was always my clingy/shy kid and it makes me so happy that he's finally at an age where he'll run up and give his Aunts and Uncles hello and good bye hugs without being forced to.
I could stare at this cousin hug picture for DAYS

Kid's Winter Photo Shoot

Oh California Winter time. T-Shirt's, sunshine and beautiful bright colors!  Since I'm not allowed to hire Sweet Poppy to take pictures of our family multiple times a year, Mike grabbed his camera and we took the kids to Stanford to get some updated shots of the two of them.  We had fun running around and these little hams gave us some good smiles. And lots of silly faces too of course!

Our blue eyed babes have lots of light sensitivity, especially Kendall!

The only way Kendall could keep her eyes open looking up was with her mouth open
He had the best angry face EVER
Happy I stole the camera for a minute :)
