Memorial Park Camping

We had a fantastic weekend camping up at Memorial Park with some of our school friend families about a month ago.  I LOVE camping and this for sure re-lit the bug! Plus, Memorial Park is so close that we were home and unpacked within an hour. Can't beat that!  We drove over after work Friday and instantly dove into the fun. Especially since new tents take like 3 minutes to put up!  The kids got to stay up later than usual but mostly went down at a reasonable time with no issues. I was very proud of us adults powering through a late night though :)  The next morning we went for a little nature hike before going down to the little creek for swimming.  There was an outdoor movie Saturday night that a few of the adults braved with a few of the kids, one of which was Kendall who stayed for the entire movie even though most of the other kids came back to camp. Once we got the kids down we stayed up and played games until we ran out of firewood (and energy). Sunday morning we packed up and headed home early enough to have a full day at home and get all the laundry done (SO much laundry after camping!!). I can't wait to go back and do it again soon!!
 Friday Night bike riding
Nature made a great "play pen" for all the toys
Morning snuggles with Miss Melinda
Another morning bike ride to the little museum
We couldn't get Kendall out of the hammock
But at least she shared :)
 Bizzions of banana slugs!
Off we go on our hike after Owen and family came to join us for the day
I keep telling Kendall about kissing banana slugs at out door ed when she gets older. She'd always eeewwwwww when we'd talk about it but she dove right in with this baby one!
Water fun!
Just some dudes hanging out :)

Kendall's Science Experiment Birthday Party

Every year I think, this is the year we'll have a small party. Just a few friends and cousins. Well, since Kendall has 7 1st cousins alone, and has her moms genes of making lots of friends, that task is impossible.  Kendall's cut down list was still a billion kids so we decided to stick to our house and get creative.  We've been watching lots of science experiments on you tube lately so that seemed like the perfect fit for this party, and boy was she excited!  The kids got to run crazy and burn some energy off before we got down to business.  We had food color rain clouds, tornadoes in jars, custom made slime and the grand finale was Mike putting mentos in soda and making it explode - 3 times.  I think all the kids had a great time and it was the perfect day for an outdoor party. Once the friends left, the cousins and Aunts hung out for a while for some bonus catch up time.  It was a really really great day and I'm so happy we decided to stick with the bigger party again this year :)

I always make Mike drag this out in hopes it gets used. I even repainted it this year!

Pre-experiment play
This is the 3rd year we have asked the guests to bring a book instead of a gift, and then each kid picks a book before they leave the party.  I'm very found of this tradition!
Rain Cloud time!
Mike showed the kids what they'd be making in the blown up version
Emily's face is THE best!

And finally, slime time!
Thank goodness for the parents because there was A LOT of kids to help!

Everyone gathered to watch mad scientist Mike
My videos won't load but these are still great!
