After some subtle pushing from some friends we finally decided to take our road trip through Oregon and Washington. Mike had one week left of paternity leave (and got a new job but more on that later) so we decided now was the prefect time to take it. We stayed in Grants Pass OR, Portland OR, Seattle WA, Florence OR and Chico CA. Kendall was an angel in the car the entire trip. She either slept or played nicely in her seat and even lasted on some longer drives without getting nursed on her normal schedule. She also did amazing during all our meals out and we not once had to rush out of lunch/dinner. As long as she has snacks and a few toys, she is happy as a clam! She did have trouble sleeping during the nights but we expected that. We have been so spoiled with such an amazing sleeper that we just reminded our-self's of how lucky we are and that we could handle a week of waking up at night. We had an amazing time! I look forward to many more road trips as a family throughout the years :)
Days 1 and 2 - Grants Pass and Drive to Portland
We headed out bright and early (5am - not so bright!) so we could make it up early in the day to Grants Pass. The Calabro cousin's live there and we could not wait to get in a good visit with them. Pete and Victoria were gracious enough to host a dinner in our honor. He cooked the most amazing lasagna and fried chicken ever! We had a great time catching up and I was so happy Kendall finally got to meet more of the family.
After dinner and some visiting we headed back to the hotel. The next morning we started to make our way to Portland but stopped at the Wildlife Safari in Winston OR. SO AMAZING! If you remember Mike and I went to Safari West in Sonoma last year, which was super great as well, but something about this park was even better! Our friends GT and Michelle tipped us off to this place and I am so happy we went. I highly recommend you all go! You drive your own car through, the kids are free to not be strapped in and the animals come right up to/walk right by you. The amount of animals was just insane! I'm not posting every picture of each type of animal, but I think you'll get the idea.
With the price of admission (only $18 an adult) you can actually drive through this place twice! Since we had another stop and wanted to get into Portland we only went once, which I kind of regret. We'll just have to go back some time :)
We also stopped at the Ninkasi Brewery, which is in Eugene OR, on the way to Portland for a little beer and snack. It was really nice breaking the drive up so much! We arrived in Portland and got settled in our room before heading out to a delish dinner. More to come on that and the rest of Portland soon....
