Road Trip - Part 1

I'm going to have to break up blogging about our road trip. 9 days is a long time and I like to give lots of details and pictures :) But here is a quick synopsis...

After some subtle pushing from some friends we finally decided to take our road trip through Oregon and Washington. Mike had one week left of paternity leave (and got a new job but more on that later) so we decided now was the prefect time to take it. We stayed in Grants Pass OR, Portland OR, Seattle WA, Florence OR and Chico CA. Kendall was an angel in the car the entire trip. She either slept or played nicely in her seat and even lasted on some longer drives without getting nursed on her normal schedule. She also did amazing during all our meals out and we not once had to rush out of lunch/dinner. As long as she has snacks and a few toys, she is happy as a clam! She did have trouble sleeping during the nights but we expected that. We have been so spoiled with such an amazing sleeper that we just reminded our-self's of how lucky we are and that we could handle a week of waking up at night. We had an amazing time! I look forward to many more road trips as a family throughout the years :)

Days 1 and 2 - Grants Pass and Drive to Portland

We headed out bright and early (5am - not so bright!) so we could make it up early in the day to Grants Pass. The Calabro cousin's live there and we could not wait to get in a good visit with them. Pete and Victoria were gracious enough to host a dinner in our honor. He cooked the most amazing lasagna and fried chicken ever! We had a great time catching up and I was so happy Kendall finally got to meet more of the family.
We stopped in Mt. Shasta to feed and change Kendall. We tried to stop in Dunsmuir at the state park where we always fish but it was closed for the winter :(
This is the most snow I've seen on Shasta in YEARS!
Kendall with Cousin's Melissa and Nick
Kendall was obsessed with Nick's wheel chair controls
Playing on the dinner table with cousin Brian
Ready for another baby Brian? :) I was bad and didn't get any pictures of K with Pete, Victoria or the boys (or Tim but Tim wouldn't hold her lol)

After dinner and some visiting we headed back to the hotel. The next morning we started to make our way to Portland but stopped at the Wildlife Safari in Winston OR. SO AMAZING! If you remember Mike and I went to Safari West in Sonoma last year, which was super great as well, but something about this park was even better! Our friends GT and Michelle tipped us off to this place and I am so happy we went. I highly recommend you all go! You drive your own car through, the kids are free to not be strapped in and the animals come right up to/walk right by you. The amount of animals was just insane! I'm not posting every picture of each type of animal, but I think you'll get the idea.
There were 4 lions (separated into pairs). There were also tigers, mountain lions and cheetahs, but sadly our camera decided to die by the end of our drive through.
Tons of baby animals :)
Love her :)
I've never seen a giraffe laying down before
Lunch time
Here come the lamas
Kendall loved watching all the animals walk by
Brown Bear Brown Bear What do you see? I see some buffalo standing behind me!
Yup, we were THAT close!
Hippo!
Crazy looking Asian Goose
Belly :)
Emu attack! We were stuck here for a while because they wouldn't move out from the front of your car.
And we're off! Kendall really liked driving with Daddy. Doesn't she look like Gavin here?
Well hello Mr. Camel!
Time to stretch our legs. It's a Kendall Fox!
These little things were so cute!
Kendall Goat
Daddy and his baby girl

With the price of admission (only $18 an adult) you can actually drive through this place twice! Since we had another stop and wanted to get into Portland we only went once, which I kind of regret. We'll just have to go back some time :)

We also stopped at the Ninkasi Brewery, which is in Eugene OR, on the way to Portland for a little beer and snack. It was really nice breaking the drive up so much! We arrived in Portland and got settled in our room before heading out to a delish dinner. More to come on that and the rest of Portland soon....
