Our Return to Dunsmuir

After an 8 year gap in our family reunion trips to Dunsmuir we finally returned!  I CAN NOT believe it had been that long.  Thankfully we have had local family picnics to fill in the gap but we were really excited to get back up there and do some fishing and relaxing with the extended family.  The awful Redding fire was blazing hard when we left for our trip, so a few of the cousins didn't make it or left early due to the smoke, but I think there was an amazing turn out of family from near and far.  Friday night we had a low key dinner of pizza and salad in the common area of our motel. As people arrived into town they joined in and it was the perfect "welcome" dinner.  Saturday Mike took Charlie fishing in the morning and my dad and cousin Julio put on an incredible family picnic up in Mount Shasta.  We spent most of the day hanging out, playing games and of course eating way too much good food.   Sunday some of the family had to start heading home so we started the day with a group fishing outing in one of our favorite spots.  The fish were plentiful and it was a cast and catch kind of morning.  The kids each got limits in no time and since we were able to release some of the fish they got to keep on fishing.  Mike and I took the kids to check out the Railroad park nearby before heading to lunch in Downtown Dunsmuir at the local brewery. After some downtime we headed back up to Mount Shasta for our end of the trip dinner at Mike and Tony's.  I always look forward to that 5 course meal and since this year Prime Rib was on the menu, I was an extra happy camper!  Since the fire had gotten worse over the weekend we decided it was best to hit the road first thing in the morning in case highway 5 got closed down. We had a great time and loved seeing our family.  It's too bad we only get to see each other once a year but I'll take what we can get!
